Mother’s Day 2018 – Have you remembered your mother?

Mother’s Day is a very special day because it celebrates motherhood and thereby care, relationships backwards and forwards in time, and family – traditional as well as new family structures. Mother’s Day is a good opportunity to remember to spoil your mom and show her that you appreciate her. On Mother’s Day you can consider your own mother, the mother of your children, or your mother-in-law. Or yourself! Many use this opportunity to appreciate the meaning of motherhood and show their respect to the responsibility that lies within motherhood.

Celebrating motherhood

Some use the occasion to give a precious gift as a ring, a pair of fine earrings, a bracelet, or a necklace in gold. Others choose to celebrate motherhood with a gemstone in pink or red nuances set in silver or gold. It could be a fine pink Sapphire, a lovely pink Opal, a delicate Rose Quartz, a shining pink Tourmaline, a beautiful Coral, an elegant pink Amethyst or a classic Ruby.

A symbolic gift

There is a lot of symbolism tied to Mother’s Day, so the most important issue is probably to consider the symbolism you want to convey with the gift, regardless of whether it is a piece of Jewellery in gold or silver, or whether it is a ring, a pair of earrings or ear

stickers, a bracelet or a necklace. Adding to the gift a symbolic value can be even more precious for the receiver than the gift itself. The symbol can be a memory of a situation, a symbol of a wish for the future of the receiver, or a symbol that holds a particular association for the receiver.

Carré Jewellery’s collaboration with Maternity Foundation

In connection with Mother’s Day 2016 we launched a bracelet in collaboration with Maternity Foundation to support the work of the organization. Maternity Foundation work to reduce mortality amongst mothers and infants in underdeveloped parts of the world, under the theme – ‘Giving life must not cost life”. Sales profits of the bracelet goes to Maternity Foundation, and the collaboration also serves in increasing the visibility of the work of Maternity Foundation.

The inscription ‘liv’ – meaning life in Danish - on the one side of the little envelope thereby serves as a celebration of life. The bracelet is set on a delicate chain and comes in polished silver as well as gold plated silver. The bracelet can easily be combined with other of your favourite bracelets. A significant amount of the price of the bracelet – 40% - will be donated to the work of Maternity foundation.

Movie actress Beate Bille is ambassador for Maternity Foundation and together with her mom, Bente Scavenius, art critic and author, and her daughter Fernanda, she has illustrated the campaign with a wonderful and symbolic portrait of three generations of women.

The bracelet with its built-in symbolism works excellent as a Mother’s Day gift.

Mother’s Day is celebrated all over the world on many different dates and with slightly different backgrounds. To mention some of the alternative dates chosen to celebrate Mother’s Day in different countries: Norway celebrates Mother’s Day the second Sunday in February, Israel celebrates Mother’s Day in February according to the jewish calendar and therefore the date changes from year to year, England and Ireland celebrate Mother’s Day on the fourth holy Sunday, and Sweden and France the last Sunday in May.

Mother’s Day was invented by the American author and women’s suffrage campaigner Julia Ward Howe (1819-1910). Today the day is a public holiday in the United States.
